Puerto Progreso
The mural 'Puerto Progreso', located on the pier of Progreso, Yucatán, is an impressive 270-square-meter work created by the artist Roa in 2020. This mural, strategically positioned facing the sea, vividly and in detail captures the historic moment of the Chicxulub meteorite impact, which occurred 66 million years ago off the Yucatán coast.
Roa, with his characteristic style, narrates through this work the cataclysmic event that marked the end of the dinosaur era and the beginning of a new era of evolution. The mural starts with a dramatic representation of the meteorite impact, followed by a sequence of images showing the mass extinction and the subsequent evolution of life on Earth. The meticulous details allow the viewer to follow the development of flora and fauna, as well as the emergence and evolution of the first civilizations up to the present day.
Each section of 'Puerto Progreso' is filled with small details that invite observers to explore and understand the rich geological and biological history of the Yucatán Peninsula. The work is not only a tribute to this monumental event but also a reminder of the constant change and adaptation of our planet. Through his art, Roa connects us with the deep past and invites us to reflect on the evolution and continuity of life.
